Learning & Development

Learning and Development

Tiny Tots Nurseries works in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which states:
“Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to their full potential. A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure safe and happy childhood is important in its own right, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. When parents choose to use early years services they want to know the provision will keep their children safe and help them to thrive. The Early Years Foundation Stage is the framework that provides that assurance.”

Early Years Development

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) applies to all children from birth to the end of the reception year.
  • The EYFS is based upon four principles:
  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development
Unique Children

A Unique Child

At Tiny Tots Nursery we recognise that every child is a competent learner who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. We recognise that children develop in individual ways, at varying rates. Children’s attitudes and dispositions to learning are influenced by feedback from others. We use praise and encouragement, as well as celebrating activities, sharing circle time and rewards, to encourage children to develop a positive attitude to learning.
Positive Relationships
Tiny Tots Nursery recognizes that children learn to be strong and independent from secure and loving relationships. We aim to develop caring, respectful and positive relationships with the children and their families.
Enabling Environments
Enabling Environments
We identify that the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending the children’s development. We begin by observing the children and assessing their interests, development and learning, before planning challenging but achievable activities. This extends and simulates the learning experience of children.
English as an Additional Language
Tiny Tots Nursery will accept children whose parents are unable to communicate in English. Our setting recognises their needs and will make every attempt to facilitate their child’s entry into the nursery. We recognise diversity and feel that all languages and cultures should be respected.

Once it is discovered that parents do not communicate in English their needs will be established and we will do all that we can to ensure that the parents/ carers and child are welcomed and settle in with ease.
Learning and Development

Learning and Development

Children learn and develop in different ways and at different rates. We value all areas of learning and development equally and understand that they are inter-connected.
The revised EYFS explains how and what your child will be learning and give them a firm foundation for a successful start at school. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of Learning and Development. This consists of 3 prime areas and 4 specific areas, which are all inter connected.
Prime Areas:
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
As children grow in the Prime Areas this will help them to develop their skills in the 4 Specific Areas
Drawing
Specific Areas:
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning. At Tiny Tots Nursery we use a fun and a play based approach to supporting learning and development in the early years. Learning is guided by qualified staff who would skilfully support the children’s development through effective teaching.

Your child’s key person will carry out regular observation on your child to ensure that we are meeting his/her learning needs and to establish their areas of interest. This helps us to tailor and plan the curriculum around your child’s needs and interests.
"The team at Tiny Tots were amazing for my peace of mind when having to return to work earlier than expected post mat leave. We loved all the activities our son got to take part in and his excited smile as we approached the nursery. We will miss the warm welcomes and wonderful relationships with the baby room. Thanks for all your help and support at a difficult time in our lives."
