Children’s Health and Nutrition

If you're looking for a daycare which offers high-quality daycare nutrition in Streatham, get in touch with us today. We are committed to offering children healthy, nutritious and balanced meals and snacks which meet individual dietary needs and requirements and which follow national nutritional guidelines for under-fives. We recognise the need to encourage healthy eating habits from an early age, as this helps the healthy growth and development of children.
The menus devised by our cooks are made available to parents for comment and to give their input including suggestion for any recipes that they would like us to follow.
Both Tinytots nurseries have a five star rating in Food and Hygiene.
  • A variety of foods is selected from each of the four main food categories every day:
    • Bread, cereals, rice, pasta and potatoes
    • Meat, fish and alternatives
    • Fruit and vegetables
    • Milk and dairy foods
    • We provide breakfast, lunch, tea and snacks in between the meals.
    • Fresh fruit is always available and is offered regularly at meal and snack time.
    • Individual dietary requirements are respected using information gathered from parents regarding their children’s dietary needs including any allergies. Where appropriate we will carry out a risk assessment in the case of allergies and work alongside parents to put into place an individual dietary plan for their child.
    • We provide foods from the diet of each of the children’s cultural and religious backgrounds, providing children with familiar foods and introducing them to new ones. Cultural differences in eating habits are respected.
    • Special dietary needs based on cultural and religious values is respected and fully taken into account when planning meals for the children.
    • Menus are planned in advance, rotated regularly, which reflect cultural diversity and seasons. These will be displayed for children and parents to view in each room.
    • Staff will set a good example and eat with the children and show good table manners. Meal and snack times are organised so that they are social occasions in which children and staff participate in small groups. During meals and snack times children will be encouraged to use their manners and say 'please' and 'thank you.
    • Staff will use meal and snack times to help children to develop independence through making choices, self-serving food and drink, and clearing tables after meals. Staff will support children to make healthy choices and understand the need for healthy eating.
    • Fresh drinking is always available and frequently offered to children and babies throughout the day.
    • Children who refuse to eat at the mealtime will be offered food later in the day.
    • Parents or guardians are advised if their child is not eating well.
    • The nursery provides parents with daily written records of feeding routines for all the children.
    • No child is ever left alone when eating/drinking to ensure that there is no risk of choking.
    • Children are given time to eat at their own pace and not rushed.
